Laser Machines

Dermatology Consulting is a specialist skin clinic run by consultant dermatologist Dr Anne Farrell. Dr Farrell trained at Oxford University Medical School and has been a consultant dermatologist for ten years. The laser hair removal is performed by Dr Farrell’s fully qualified nurses who have been specially trained in laser hair removal by Dr Farrell. The clinic is regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

Laser hair removal is designed to permanently reduce unwanted body hair by using the light energy from a laser. Compared with shaving, waxing, sugaring and tweezing that only produce temporary results, and can generally only be carried out on relatively small areas, laser hair removal treatment can permanently reduce unwanted hair from both small and large areas.

The laser light is gently passed over the skin and is absorbed by the growing hairs, reducing their growth permanently.

Cynosure Laser Hair RemovalBest results occur in those with light skin and dark hair as the laser can easily target the contrast of dark hair against white skin. Lasers also work better on people with coarse hair rather than fine hair.

The type of laser machine and the skill and experience of the laser operator are also important. For this reason our qualified nurses have two types of laser machine available, the choice of which will be determined in a consultation prior to your first treatment.

Alexandrite Laser Hair Removal

This laser is the fastest and most powerful of all the hair removal laser types and enables us to treat large areas quite quickly. It is effective especially for those with light-to-olive skin complexion. It is one of the most widely used hair removal lasers and targets the dark area of the hair so it cannot be used if there is a tan or if the skin is pigmented.

Nd-YAG Laser Hair Removal

The NdYag laser can be used safely on all skin types including tanned skin and very dark skin. It is gentler than the Alexandrite laser so more sessions may be needed, however it is much less likely to cause complications for those with darker skin.
