Precautions
Certain medications can affect how the skin reacts to the laser light, and it is important to be consistent throughout the course of the laser treatment. If any new medication is started, including vitamins and herbal remedies, you should inform the nurse before the laser treatment is performed. It may need to be postponed.
We will advise you not to pluck or wax the area during your course of treatment, and on the night before the treatment it is best to shave the hair so it is as short as possible. Do not apply gels, oils or deodorants to the area 12-hours prior to treatment.
If we have told you that we are using the Alexandrite laser for your treatment then it is important not to tan or fake tan prior to or during your course of treatment. This is because darkening or tanning your skin will increase the risk of blistering and other side effects of the laser. If you do get a tan then we can switch you to the NdYag laser, which is safe on all skins, although not as powerful as the Alexandrite.
It is also important to avoid excessive sunlight and sun tanning for at least a week, and ideally six weeks, after treatment.
